Maşukiye and Kartepe
Maşukiye is a village in the Kartepe district, a short drive from Lake Sapanca. It is known for its streams and small waterfalls, riverside restaurants serving trout and village breakfasts, and outdoor activities in the forest. Above it, the Kartepe ski resort is one of the closest ski areas to Istanbul, with hotels near the slopes and a season that depends on the winter snowfall.

How far is Sapanca from Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen?
Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) is the closer airport: roughly 100 km, usually 1–1.5 hours to Lake Sapanca. From Istanbul Airport (IST) it is around 170–190 km and about 2–2.5 hours via the northern motorway. Weekend and holiday traffic can add time in both directions.
Is there a train from Istanbul to Sapanca?
Some trains from the Asian side of Istanbul stop at stations in the İzmit and Sakarya area, but they do not reach the lakeside hotels, bungalows or Maşukiye. With luggage you will still need a car at the other end, which is why most visitors book a door-to-door transfer.
Can the driver wait for us during a Sapanca or Maşukiye day trip?
