Since 2022 the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge has linked the European and Asian shores of the Dardanelles, so Çanakkale city no longer depends on the ferry. The Gallipoli battlefields are on the European side and are reached without crossing the strait. Times are approximate and depend on your starting point, traffic leaving Istanbul and holiday periods.
Gallipoli Battlefields and Memorials
The Gallipoli Historical Site covers a large area of the peninsula north of Eceabat, with sites such as Anzac Cove, Lone Pine, Chunuk Bair and the Çanakkale Martyrs' Memorial. Distances between them are considerable, so having a car and driver on the peninsula makes the visit much easier. Your driver can take you from memorial to memorial at your own pace, or drop you with a licensed local guide and collect you afterwards.
Troy and Çanakkale City
Troy (Truva), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lies south of Çanakkale. The nearby Troy Museum is worth adding to the same visit. Çanakkale city itself has a lively waterfront, the Trojan Horse replica from the 2004 film and good seafood restaurants, which makes it a comfortable base for a night before or after Gallipoli.
Day Trip or Overnight?
A Gallipoli day trip from Istanbul is possible if you start very early, but the round trip means 8–9 hours in the car. Most travellers prefer one of these options:

- ✓Two-day trip — Gallipoli on day one, Troy on day two, back to Istanbul in the evening

Çanakkale city is roughly 310–330 km from Istanbul, about 4–4.5 hours by car using the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge across the Dardanelles. Eceabat and the Gallipoli battlefields on the European side are reached in a similar time without crossing the strait.
Can I visit Gallipoli as a day trip from Istanbul?
It is possible but long: around 8–9 hours of driving in total, which leaves only a few hours at the memorials. For a relaxed visit we recommend one night in Eceabat or Çanakkale, or a one-way transfer followed by a return on another day.
How far is Troy from Çanakkale?
The archaeological site of Troy (Truva) is about 30 km south of Çanakkale city, a drive of roughly 30–40 minutes. It is easy to combine with a transfer to Çanakkale or with a Gallipoli visit on the following day.
