Every year, millions of travellers land at Istanbul Airport (IST) or Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) and face the same question: take a taxi or book a private transfer? We operate both services — so here's the unbiased comparison.

The Price Reality: Taxi vs Transfer
Istanbul taxis run on meters. The starting rate is fine — but the issue is the unpredictability. Your IST→Taksim fare depends entirely on:
- ⚠Traffic at the time of travel (motorway from IST can be slow)
- ⚠Whether the driver takes the most direct route
- ⚠Bridge tolls (TRY 150–250) added separately on top of the meter
- ⚠Night rate (higher tariff after 24:00)
The result: a trip that "should" cost €50 ends up at €85–120. A fixed-price transfer at €49 is not just competitive — it eliminates anxiety completely.
Safety: Are Istanbul Taxis Reliable?
Most official yellow taxis at Istanbul Airport are licensed and safe. However, travellers should be aware of:
- ⚠Unofficial taxis near terminal exits — avoid anyone offering rides before you reach the official taxi rank
- ⚠Rigged meters — a minority of taxis (not all) have been reported to run higher-rate tariffs on tourists
- ⚠No accountability — if something goes wrong with an airport taxi, it's hard to follow up
With a private transfer, you book with a named company, you have the driver's name before arrival, and you have a WhatsApp record of your booking. It's simply more accountable.
When a Taxi Might Make Sense
- →You're travelling completely solo with minimal luggage
- →You're on a very tight budget and don't mind potential overpaying
- →You missed your pre-booked transfer and need an immediate vehicle
- →Short distance within the city (not airport runs)
Common Questions
Official taxis at IST are located on the ground floor arrivals level. Follow the "Taxi" signs after baggage claim. Do not accept offers from people approaching you inside the terminal.
No — Istanbul taxis are metered by law and drivers cannot legally agree fixed prices. If a driver quotes you a fixed price from IST, it is usually higher than the meter would show. Only private transfer companies offer legitimate fixed prices.
Tipping taxi drivers is not mandatory in Turkey. Rounding up to the nearest 10–20 TRY is common but not expected.
Most taxis accept credit and debit cards, but it's wise to have some Turkish Lira cash in case of card machine "problems." Our private transfer accepts cash or bank transfer.
